Let's be honest, there's nothing as attractive as intelligence. An all round know how of both academic and non academic subjects.
I believe interviews are based on this principle. I learned the hard truth that I had to step up or step out after a very embarrassing interview I attended for an industry I really wanted to work in. I was straight from school feeling all high and mighty with a coveted degree, relishing in the knowledge that they are the ones who would be lucky to have me. It's safe to say I walked away not only without my dignity, but also knowing that I definitely did not get the job.
I deserved that slice of humble pie because now, my eyes are open. Rest assured you will find me dedicating a minimum of two hours in my day refreshing my academic knowledge, learning something new or staying up to date with the news.
Trust me, it can be difficult turning away from TikTok or Netflix or whatever distraction floats your boat, but I deliberately choose to starve them. Don't get me wrong, I do love my quota of entertainment, especially a good laugh. Life is for living after all. But keep in mind times are changing and I believe we have to be prepared for whatever comes our way lest God forbid, another pandemic strikes and your skills become obsolete. Preparation goes hand in hand with knowledge which gives you power over your circumstances.
